The YMCA...

There is so much I could write here. The YMCA has always been such a huge part of my life. Working at branches in the Greater Des Moines association played a large role in defining me.

The Waukee YMCA pools
0-4 foot recreation pool
 4-13 foot competitve pool

As Aquatic Director I was in charge of EVERYTHING AQUATIC. Swim lessons, lifeguards, pool schedules, pool maintenance, water aerobics, safety, diving, swim team, staffing, budget, member relations, and training.

The YMCA stands for so many great things. Their core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility shaped everything that we did. My number one goal while working at the Y was to share my passion and what the Y stands for with my staff. Ask any one of them, Jaime said "we can't have someone working here for 'just for a job,' I hope that all of you can find a passion in something that you do at the Y. I hope that all of you realize what can be done here." Though that sounds sappy and possibly like an unrealistic demand of part time employees it is something that I worked for. I grew up at the Y, it was a place that felt like home to me. To those staff that don't need the Y as a place to belong, but rather just the money to fill their gas tanks, I want them to still enstill that sense of belonging in others. People come to the Y for a variety of reasons, we are there to make sure that they find what they're looking for. The Y is more than a gym, actually I rarely ever think of it as a place to work out. The Y is a place to live, play, and be whoever you want to be. Can you get that from your local fitness club?
